Your job
As Legal Director you will play a crucial role in supporting the customer facing teams of SpeakUp by overseeing all legal aspects of the commercial contracting process. Your responsibilities will include owning the standard Terms & Conditions, negotiating enterprise-level SaaS customer contracts, ensuring compliance, and managing the associated (commercial, privacy, and security) risks to the organization.
In this position you will interact directly and frequently with senior leadership, and you will report to the CFO.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Collaborate with various business functions: demonstrate senior capabilities and leadership in supporting internal teams with (privacy and commercial) legal questions and projects, handling difficult situations diplomatically, pragmatically, and independently.
- Contracting: update, review, draft, and negotiate the SaaS terms and conditions in customer and vendor contracts. This includes NDAs, SaaS Master Agreements/Terms & Conditions, Service Level Agreements, Order Forms, Partner Agreements, and DPA’s. The goal is to move contracts to completion quickly in a smart and pragmatic manner while protecting the interests of the Company.
- Contract management: perform regular internal reviews of existing contracts and ensure compliance with service levels and internal security and privacy policies.
- Data Protection Officer (DPO): serve as the main point of contact within the organization for staff members, regulators, and relevant public authorities on issues related to data protection and privacy.
- Regulatory monitoring: keep track of relevant international regulatory developments and translate them into business opportunities.
- Compliance: own the privacy policies (part of the ISMS) and ensure that company practices comply with GDPR and other relevant privacy and security regulations/standards.
- Risk mitigation: guide different teams on mitigating legal risks in the commercial, privacy, and security context.
- Template and process development: Develop, implement, and maintain standard templates, forms, and processes.
- Training: provide training to the sales and services teams across the business as required.

Your profile
- 7+ years as a lawyer and/or legal counsel, of which 3+ years supporting commercial teams in drafting and negotiating enterprise-level commercial contracts.
- Experience in the SaaS industry, with a deep understanding of its unique challenges and opportunities, is a plus.
- Demonstrated enterprise experience, particularly with a strong emphasis on data privacy and security.
- Strong understanding of data protection regulations (GDPR) and international security standards (e.g. SOC 2, ISO standards, and NIST Cyber Security Framework).
- Proactive, commercial sense and ability to prioritize and undertake mission-critical tasks, providing exceptional service to various stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with a team player attitude and ability to translate the legal context into simple language.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with all levels of management.
- Experience with cross-cultural communication is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in a constantly changing and sometimes ambiguous environment and make sound decisions
